Safeguarding

The leaflet below includes information on how you can apply for a free CO2 alarm for your property. A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in your home is a great way of keeping you and your family safe from the dangers of (CO). CO is an odourless, tasteless, and invisible gas that is dangerous, and can be created from faulty gas appliances.

Sparx Maths

SPARX completion rates remain strong at Astrea Academy Dearne. Well done to all scholars who completed their homework this week as it will support their progress in Maths.

Please encourage your child to complete the homework every week and a huge well done to all scholars who have done so.

The department offers support for homework on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays after school so please use this support, if needed.

The deadline for KS3 is 7am every Wednesday and for KS4, the deadline is 7am every Monday. Failure to complete by these days results in the SPARX support club and a detention if this is not attended.

Our Y11s are showing an outstanding attitude to their exams. They have worked so hard all year and have impressed staff with their attitude and resilience. Please support them over the last 2 weeks of their time with us and remember there are revision sessions before every exam.

Nut free school

Please note that our school is a nut free zone. We have scholars and members of staff in school who have serious nut allergies. Please do not send scholars into school with any products which may contain nuts.

Exam Support

We are nearly there! The end of the exams is approaching. Please praise your child for their  hard work and determination at this testing time.
Please encourage them to continue with the following self help techniques:
  1. Revise – Make sure you set yourself time to revise and use revision cards to help support this.
  2. My calm space – Sit in a quiet room/ space and picture somewhere quiet, where you would like to be. Please hold these thoughts for a couple of minutes whilst exhaling and inhaling and slowly controlling your breathing.
  3. Mindfulness- Take time for yourself! Reading, mindful colouring, sewing and jigsaws are good for this.
  4. Go for a walk and enjoy the surroundings and fresh air with friends and family.
  5. Exercise – A fantastic way to clear the mind and realise them endorphins.
  6. Rest – Please ensure you are getting enough sleep and rest ready for the exams ahead.
This weeks self sooth techniques are:
Butterfly breathing
Please encourage your child to create a Kooth profile. This will also help and support them with their next steps, up to the age of 25, so this is a valid resource to have.
This allows your child to complete mindful activities and also has a support chat by NHS qualified well-being staff.
Lastly, why not create and account on the Calm website to help and support with sleep and meditation.
It is now the last call for exam stress packs – Please email Mrs South yo request one: sarah.south@astreadearne.org.

MCAS

As you are aware, we currently use ParentPay for our cashless payments in school. During the summer holiday, we will be moving over to MyChildAtSchool (MACS) payments. If you already have activated your MCAS account, there is no further action needed and any balance remaining on ParentPay will automatically transfer over. If you are yet to activate your MACS and need help in completing this, please contact info@astreadearne.org
