Transition & Community Based Projects
Our vision at Astrea Dearne is to provide a school experience that ensures children feel safe, valued and proud of their community, so they can become enthusiastic learners and courageous young people able to leave in Y11 with exactly what they need to build themselves a successful future.
Our transition aims to encompass all that #TeamDearne has to offer, during your child’s visit they will have the opportunity to tour the school, meet their new teachers and class mates, participate in sample lessons, participate in sporting events, as well be involved in supporting the regeneration of our local community.
Polaris Project Dearne – Transition – Regeneration of Goldthorpe Embankment
Polaris Project Aim: Adventures in learning that allow our “Northern Stars” to shine bright.
At Astrea Dearne we run a four-week long transition process based on two days a week whereby students experience a mixture of classroom based learning paired with community projects working alongside The Dearne Area Team. In summary the project focus is to raise awareness of the changes we can make to our daily lives, and the impacts of our choices and daily behaviour; raising the aspirations of students through developing their knowledge, skills and characters through community and project based learning. The intention is to make an impact locally through nurturing skills and character traits that will serve them in a wider context out of school in their futures.
Tiny Forests – Ongoing from March 2021
Environmental issues such as flooding, pollution, heat stress and loss of biodiversity are increasingly affecting urban areas; and this is only expected to worsen in the face of climate change.
Creating thriving and climate-resilient urban areas that support economic growth whilst also enhancing wellbeing, is a considerable challenge.
Tiny Forests help mitigate the impacts of climate change, support urban wildlife, and reconnect people with nature, offering multiple co-benefits. At Astrea Dearne we are proud to be active members of this new community project.
