A child or young person has Special Educational Needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which means that they need special educational provision to support them.
Special educational provision is support that is different from or additional to what is normally available to scholars of the same age.
Children and young people with SEN may need more support than most pupils of the same age or they may have a disability which makes it more difficult for them to use the our facilities. Not all children with Special Education Needs have a formal diagnosis.
For example, they may have problems with:
- Specific areas of learning, such as reading, writing and number work
- Communication
- Friendships and relating to others
- Emotions and behaviour
- Difficulties with seeing, hearing and moving around
- Medical conditions that impact on learning
- Mental health difficulties, such as stress, anxiety and depression

SEN Support
If your child has been identified as having SEN, we will follow a four-part cycle, known as the graduated
approach, that is personalised to your child’s needs.
This means that we will assess your child’s needs, plan the support they need, do the work and review whether it has made a difference.
With each cycle, we will gain a better understanding of your child’s needs and adapt the support
that we put in place for your child.
