Aims of Homework

We believe that the best homework supports learning and it allows scholars an opportunity to build on their lessons, deepen their understanding, and consolidate learning.

We expect scholars in years 7-9 to complete around 2 hour of homework every evening. In years 10 and 11, scholars complete a minimum of 2 hours of homework per night. This includes revising using Knowledge Organisers to support with the Keepers of Knowledge Quizzing.

What subject homework do we set?

Scholars receive homework from every subject at least once per week. Homework is set on the same day each week. The hand-in and hand-out day is Friday. All homework is to be completed by Friday 8am.

Homework is tailored to every subject and will be a combination of written and online activities. Each teacher designs the homework to the class to make sure scholars are adequately challenged.

What are Knowledge Organisers?

Knowledge organisers are usually one-page documents that include important, useful and powerful knowledge about key content in a subject.

All scholars have been issued with their own knowledge organiser folder. This forms part of essential equipment and should be brought to the academy every day.

Every week, scholars will be directed to a section of their knowledge organiser to revise from.

What support is available?

To ensure that every scholar has the opportunity to successfully complete their homework, a homework club is available at the end of the academic day in IT03, IT02 and IT05, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 3pm until 4:00pm.

How can families support with homework completion?

Families can support their child with the completion of homework by:

  • Asking them if they have completed homework.
  • Encouraging them to attend the homework club after school.
  • To communicate with the academy if they need support.
  • Ensuring they have a quiet space to work independently, away from household distractions.
