Pastoral Care

At Astrea Academy Dearne, we pride ourselves on providing strong and supportive pastoral care for all our scholars. We believe that when young people feel safe, valued, and secure, they are happier and better able to achieve their full potential.

Where possible, each year group has a dedicated team of professionals, ensuring scholars and their families receive the individualised support they need.

Every scholar has access to:

  • Form Tutor – The first point of contact for parents and carers, ensuring every scholar feels supported.
  • Pastoral Year Leader – Oversees scholars’ wellbeing and behaviour.
  • Academic Year Leader – Monitors and reviews attendance, achievement, and rewards.
  • Attendance Officer – Ensures scholars attend school every day and supports families where barriers to attendance exist.
  • SLT Link – Oversees the year group and coordinates special events, such as the Year 9 options process.

Alongside these roles, our dedicated pastoral staff provide guidance and care throughout each scholar’s journey with us.

Emotional Wellbeing and Support

Many scholars receive support from their school when life feels challenging. At Dearne, young people can talk to any member of staff about anything that’s worrying them—whether it’s related to school or something else.

For more guidance, check out the link below to websites offering free advice and resources on safety, wellbeing, and mental health. Some services are national, while others are local and can provide support such as counselling.

It’s normal to feel upset or stressed sometimes. However, if these feelings don’t go away or are causing significant worry for you or someone you care about, it may be time to seek professional help.

At Dearne and across the local area, there are a range of services available for young people and families, including peer support, family support, and counselling.
