Enrichment

Our Year 9 and Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Award scholars went on their practice walk near Barnburgh last weekend. This was in preparation for their Bronze Award qualifying expeditions. Scholars learned to use compasses in the outdoors and worked brilliantly in their teams.

Safeguarding

This week, staff in school have been reminded to be vigilant around Country Lines and Child Criminal Exploitation. County Lines is when children or vulnerable young people are used to transport illegal drugs from one area to another. The ‘County Line’ is the mobile phone line used to take the orders of drugs. Children are vulnerable to being groomed by members of organised crime gangs to take part in illegal activity. If you have any worries or concerns about your child, support is available. Please contact the Safeguarding Team in school to discuss further.

MCAS

As you are aware, we currently use ParentPay for our cashless payments in school. During the summer holiday, we will be moving over to MyChildAtSchool (MACS) payments. If you already have activated your MCAS account, there is no further action needed and any balance remaining on ParentPay will automatically transfer over. If you are yet to activate your MACS and need help in completing this, please contact info@astreadearne.org

PROUD

Here are a few snapshots of scholars work this week. It is a pleasure to see how hard our scholars work on a daily basis across the academy.

Sparx Maths

SPARX completion rates increased again this week.

Please encourage your child to complete the homework every week, and a huge well done to all scholars who have done so.

Please remember the Maths department offers support for homework on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  These sessions begin straight after school and allow students to have support when completing their homework.

DEADLINE for KS3 is 7am every Wednesday and for KS4, it is 7am every Monday.  Failure to complete by these days results in the SPARX support club and a detention, if this is not attended.

The National Maths Challenge results are in!  Of the 115 scholars taking part, 22 received a bronze award, 5 received silver and 1 student attained a gold award.  This is a fantastic achievement, and the department would like to thank all scholars who participated.  They have shown real skills in a subject they will be using for the rest of their lives.  Very, very well done to all who took part!

Year 11 72%
Year 10 75%
Year 9 82%
Year 8 85%
Year 7 83%

Communications

You can contact us by calling reception on 01709 892211 or emailing info@astreadearne.org

We use the My Child At School (MCAS) to communicate with our parents and carers. MCAS is the online platform that allows us to share information live with you. It enables families to view live data including a student’s timetable, list of teachers, number of rewards and behaviour points and so on. If you have not yet registered for MCAS and would like some support to do so please contact school reception or you can follow this guide MCAS and Communication – Dearne Academy (astreadearne.org)
