If you have any questions regarding the Parents’ Evening, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Child or Mr Atkinson at school. Thank you for your continued support.

Attendance

We have seen a pleasing rise in attendance during half term 4, but we must all work together, with you as parents, carers, and scholars to improve this in the coming weeks and months.

Since the COVID pandemic, attendance nationally has seen a huge dip and sadly, this has also been the case at Astrea Academy Dearne. There are signs that this is improving but, as stated, we must all work together to ensure scholars are in lessons, learning at every available opportunity.

Attendance clearly links to outcomes. Last year, scholars with over 90% attendance averaged almost 2 full grades higher than those with less than 90% attendance.

Every year group has its own Attendance Officer:

  • Y7 – Mrs Bann
  • Y8 – Mrs Stringfellow and Mrs Wheatcroft
  • Y9 – Mrs Mason
  • Y10 – Mrs Dickinson
  • Y11 – Mr Crew
  • Attendance Manager – Mrs Parkin
  • Attendance Admin – Mrs Laycock
  • Senior Leader for Attendance – Mr Richardson.

In the next newsletter, we will share some key findings from our parental voice, scholar voice and updates on attendance during this academic year.

Certificates

Certificates were awarded on Friday to celebrate the scholars who have achieved the following:

Zero Hero – 100% attendance and no negatives during half term 4 (213 scholars)
Class Charts Bronze – 85% more positives than negatives logged on class charts (118 scholars)
Class Charts Silver – 90% more positives than negatives logged on class charts (139 scholars)
Class Charts Gold – 95% more positives than negatives logged on class charts (549 scholars)
100% attendance during half term 4 (454 scholars)
Congratulations to everyone who received a certificate!

Year 11

We are really pleased to share our Easter intervention timetable for Year 11 with you. If scholars are in for any session over lunchtime, we will provide a selection of cold sandwiches, drinks and crisps. We have had a great sign up to each session and look forward to working with our Year 11 scholars as they approach their final GCSEs.

Sparx Maths

Year 11 73%
Year 10 70%
Year 9 79%
Year 8 80%
Year 7 76%

Completion rates at Astrea Academy Dearne remain strong with Year 9 showing a positive increase in completion. A massive well done to all scholars who have completed 100% of their homework this week.

Please remember the Maths department offers support for homework on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These sessions begin straight after school and allow students to have some support when completing homework.

  • Easter revision for Year 11 is on Friday 5th April, starting at 10.40am and finishing at 12.10pm.
  • Homework for this week has been set, however this is not due until the first week of next term so students have nearly 3 weeks to complete.

DEADLINE for KS3 is 7am every Wednesday and for KS4 it is 7am every Monday. Failure to complete by these days results in the SPARX support club.

PROUD

PROUD Thursday sees scholars bring examples of work that meets our PROUD criteria. We see some fantastic work from all different subjects. See some examples below!
