Associate Principal's Message

Dear families,

It was great to see so many scholars getting orange and bronze badges for their amazing achievement point totals over half term. Literally hundreds of scholars were presented their badges; these scholars are working hard, contributing to school life and being great role models, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. We want to see all scholars wearing their achievement badges with pride, so do look out for them!

This week also saw our Y10 Subject Review Evening. Thanks to all families who booked in appointments with teachers; we are using the online system to improve accessibility, as we know so many of you have commitments which can make it harder for face-to-face appointments. We want to make these appointments as productive and informative for you and your child as possible, so your feedback is very welcome.

With all the snow and ice around the moment, I hope we are all staying warm, safe and well. We’ll be continuing to share information from the local council wards, Barnsley MBC and other organisations to help you get support in this regard. Please get in touch if you know of any events or services taking place in the local area that you think the community would benefit from, as we’d be happy to share them.

Have a great weekend, and as always I look forward to another successful week ahead.

Kind regards

Mr Arezoo

HeppSY Survey

As a school, we work closely with HeppSY (the Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire) to promote university as a potential Post-18 pathway.

In order for HeppSY to understand our school’s cohort with regards to aspirations, plans for the future and understanding of Higher Education, they are running the following survey.

If your son/daughter answers all of the questions, they will be entered into a prize draw to win either a £20 or £100 high-street voucher.

Please use this link: https://shusls.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b15O62ZjNjxrAX4 and the password, SHU, to access the survey.

Safeguarding

Instagram will soon be launching ‘Instagram Teen’ accounts. These accounts will be for teenagers between 13-17 years old and will have in built procedures and protections to attempt to safeguard some of the recurrent issues we see when teens begin to use social media. There will be enhanced parental controls, verification needed to prove age and automatic filters on comments to ensure your child is not exposed to anything abusive or inappropriate. We would strongly recommend considering this for your teenager to encourage healthy online safety.

To ensure key information is at parents fingertips, we are trialling the use of a new WhatsApp Channel to share key whole school messages.

Please follow and share with other families in the Astrea Dearne Community. Don’t forget to turn on notifications!
