Morning Meetings at Astrea Academy Dearne

At the start of this term, Morning Meetings were introduced for every year group across the Academy. The start of the day is incredibly influential in determining the day’s success. By providing a regular opportunity to come together as a year group to communicate expectations and key messages, check readiness for the day and show appreciation to our scholars, we ensure a purposeful beginning to the day through a calm and positive start.

Morning Meetings provide:

  • Knowledge rich experiences
  • Communication and clarity of our culture and academy values
  • Deliver information to scholars – pastoral and curriculum based
  • Allow a positive start to the day everyday- right frame of mind
  • Classroom Culture– Learning is sacrosanct, time is precious
  • Each section contributes to ensuring that scholars are prepared for a successful day ahead
  • Time for reflection

Every day, we focus on one of our Astrea Values. We say the word and the definition together, to support fluency of reading and pronunciation:

We also communicate key messages and expectations to ensure our scholars are prepared for success. At the end of each meeting, two form tutors appreciate a chosen scholar and as a year group we give ‘Two Claps’ to show how proud we are of those chosen scholars.

Regional Director, Rebekah Ramsden said, “Excellent to see morning meetings in full swing this morning at Astrea Academy Dearne. Whole school focus on tenacity, consistent routines carrying out equipment checks and some fantastic choral response from Y7 & Y8!”

Library

There are a range of books for scholars to read and borrow from our school library. Scholars can borrow a book for up to two weeks. Books overdue for more than two weeks will result in the scholar receiving a reminder to return or renew items borrowed. Scholars can access the online library system ‘Reading Cloud’ to see the books available in the library as well as which books they currently have on loan and when they are due back. Each scholar has login details for this website. For further information about login information and damaged or lost books, please ask at the school library.
