Welcome from governing body chair, Wendy Eyre
On behalf of the Governing Body I would like to offer you a warm welcome to the governors’ section of the school website.
I am Wendy Eyre, Chair of Astrea Academy Dearne’s governing body.
The Governing Body fulfils its statutory role through full governing body meetings every term and committee meetings every month. It is there to provide support and challenge to the school and the senior leadership team at a strategic level.
Visits are made to the school on both formal and informal occasions and we always welcome the opportunity to meet with parents. To give you a brief overview, the main roles of the Governing Body are as follows:
- To provide a strategic overview around self-evaluation and school improvement to ensure that our students are learning effectively
- To provide support and challenge to the school’s senior leadership team through effective monitoring and evaluation
- To ensure accountability: the Governing Body is responsible for ensuring high quality education for all students and is accountable to you for the school’s performance.
The Governing Body is made up from parents, people from the community, staff at the school and the Local Authority. School governors make collective decisions as part of the Governing Body on how the school is and will be run. However, they do not get involved in the day to day business of the school – this is the
work of the leadership team and the staff. All the governors of Astrea Dearne are highly committed to its success. Many have a long association with the school and some were pupils themselves. All share a strong moral purpose, underpinned by a caring ethos and the desire for all students to achieve their academic, social and emotional potential.
THESE DAYS, RUNNING A SCHOOL IS QUITE DEMANDING FOR ALL CONCERNED; HOWEVER, DOING IT WELL AND SEEING THOUSANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE BENEFIT OVER THE YEARS IS IMMENSELY REWARDING.
Every day, every policy, everybody at the Astrea Dearne ensures that every student is equally valued and their future is equally worked for. No student should be left behind or excluded in our ambition.
Over the next few months we have set ourselves a very demanding and challenging agenda but we are confident as we work as an effective and inclusive team that we will continue to develop and build on the school’s key successes. We will also introduce all our governors to you and keep you up to date with our work and the continued progress being made at Astrea Dearne.
If you wish to contact the governors, this can be done by sending a letter to the school addressed to either the Chair of the Governing Body or the Clerk to the Governing Body, or by email to: email@example.com
