Supporting Excellent Behaviour at Astrea Dearne – Key Information for Parents

At Astrea Academy Dearne, we believe that excellent behaviour is essential for a safe, respectful, and successful learning environment. Our Behaviour Policy sets out expectations for scholars, staff, and parents to ensure every child can thrive.

Our Core Principles

  • High expectations for behaviour and learning.
  • A warm but strict approach: clear boundaries with care and respect.
  • Promoting kindness, responsibility, and respect for all.
  • A truly Mobile Phone free school site.

What We Aim For

  • Disruption-free classrooms where every child can learn.
  • Recognition and celebration of positive behaviour.
  • Fair and consistent application of rules and sanctions.
  • Support for vulnerable learners and those with additional needs.

What We Expect

Scholars:

  • Follow instructions first time, every time.
  • Show respect to staff, peers, and the school environment.
  • Wear full uniform with pride.
  • Act as positive ambassadors in and out of school.

Parents/Carers:

  • Support the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Ensure children attend punctually and ready to learn.
  • Communicate any factors that may affect behaviour.
  • Engage with school meetings and reintegration processes if needed.

Rewards

  • Daily praise and Achievement Points for positive behaviour.
  • Certificates and badges for reaching milestones.
  • Weekly and termly celebrations, including “Zero Hero” awards for perfect attendance and conduct.

Sanctions

  • Verbal warnings and corrections for minor issues.
  • After-school detentions for repeated or serious breaches.
  • Reset Base for persistent disruption.
  • Suspension or managed moves for serious incidents (as a last resort).

Other Key Points

  • Mobile phones must be switched off and stored in Hush Pouches during the day.
  • Bullying, discriminatory behaviour, and unsafe actions will not be tolerated.
  • Behaviour expectations apply beyond the school site, including online.

Core Routines

At Astrea Academy Dearne, we have a series of daily practices called ‘core routines’, designed to ensure that we provide an environment and culture that is safe, inclusive and enables scholars to focus on their learning and social development.
