Apprenticeships and Traineeships

An apprenticeship means being employed in a job role and trained up to a high standard by a company.

Alongside this you will study a practical, work based qualification to prove that you are competent in the particular job area that you’re in. You may do this for one day a week at a College or your employer might arrange for your tutor to come into the workplace. You will be paid a weekly training allowance. The minimum wage that you will receive as an apprentice is £3.30 per hour. However, much of the time employers pay more than this. To access an apprenticeship you will need good GCSE grades. If you do not get the right grades, you can access a Traineeship.

A traineeship is a course that can last between 6 weeks and 6 months and is designed to help you to become ‘work ready’.  You will concentrate on work placements and employability skills including Maths and English. You are not payed but depending on your financial situation, you may receive help with travel costs etc.
